Successful test of biofuels on group vessels on the Spliethoff Group

Last year, the Spliethoff Group started tests on the use of biofuels on its vessels with the aim to reduce CO₂ emissions.

In a first trial, a mixture of 50% FAME-based biofuel produced from waste streams and 50% conventional HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) was tested. The results showed that the biofuel was suitable for use with HFO and that storage over a longer period is problem-free. In a second trial, which was launched in December 2021, the use of 100% biofuels is being tested to be able to offer the Spliethoff Group's customers an option for reducing emissions in the logistics sector as well in the future.
