Federal Environment Ministry hampers climate protection efforts in transport

The German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) has presented a first draft regulation on the Fuel Emission Trading Act (BEHG). This draft provides that even certified sustainable biofuels will be subject to an additional levy on petrol and diesel against the commitment of the legislator and will thus become more expensive from 2021. The BMU is thus ignoring the German Parliament guidelines on the structure of the CO2 price in the transport and heating sectors.  The Federal Government has specified the requirements for the determination of fuel emissions from fuels in more detail by means of additional ordinances. When determining standard emission factors, biogenic fuel emissions are to be assigned an emission factor of zero if there is corresponding proof of sustainability.
