EPA proposes new Renewable Fuel Standard

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the proposed volumes of renewable fuels according to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) for 2019/2020. In the proposed rule for 2019 total renewable fuels would increase by 590 million gallons to 19.88 billion gallons, the total advanced biofuels volume would increase by the same amount to 4.88 billion gallons. Conventional biofuels would be set at 15 billion gallons. Cellulosic biofuels would increase by 93 million gallons to 381 million gallons, which is a change of direction from last year. Biomass-based biodiesel must be finalized one year before the other categories and would increase by 330 million gallons up to 2.43 billion gallons in 2020. EPA is required to release its final version of the rule by November 30.
