Preliminary agreement on RED II

On 14 June 2018, the European Commission, Parliament and Council have agreed on the new Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) for 2021-2030. The agreement includes a 14% target on renewable energies in the transport sector by 2030, a freeze on the use of ILUC biofuels like palm oil based ones to current levels and a phase out by 2030 and a cap on crop based biofuels to 2020 levels. The European biofuel associations reacted quite differently to the RED II announcement.
